If you live in Nokomis/Venice long enough, someone’s going to tell you to try Briandi’s Restaurant. It’s that little Italian place on Tamiami Trail — easy to miss from the road, but once you’ve been, you understand why people keep going back. Family-run, friendly, and focused on the food.
A Local Favorite with Big-Hearted Flavor
Briandi’s is one of those places that locals (and many seasonal residents) know well, a steady favorite for anyone craving Italian comfort food in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
Think parmigiana, lasagna, and hearty pasta dishes served with no frills, just flavor. It’s not fine dining — and that’s exactly what makes it special.
On past visits, I’ve had the lasagna (13 layers!) and the eggplant parmigiana (served with a side of spaghetti). Both were outstanding, rich, cheesy, and unmistakably homemade.
This Time, It Was All About the Pizza
My wife, Demi, and I were craving a good pizza, so we decided to give Briandi’s pizza a try. They don’t deliver, but pickup was easy and friendly. We ordered a 16-inch pepperoni — their only size — and on the drive home after pick up, the aroma coming from the box had me salivating. Once home, opening the box, it’s pizza perfection at first glance.

What We Look for in a Great Pizza
Everyone has their own pizza philosophy. For us, a great pizza starts with a thin, crispy (but not brittle) crust (although Demi doesn’t hold this as a strict requirement). The cheese needs a satisfying stretch. The sauce should complement the pizza without taking over. And the pepperoni? Slightly spicy, curled at the edges, with just enough crisp.
Briandi’s hit every note perfectly.
The Verdict: 5 Out of 5
The dough is made fresh daily, and it makes a difference. The crust had that perfect crunch on the edge, a crispy bottom with just enough chew. The sauce was balanced and flavorful, and the cheese melted beautifully with that irresistible pull.
And the pepperoni? Spot on — curled, slightly spicy, and tinged with just enough char to add that smoky depth pizza lovers crave.
We enjoyed every bite and agreed it was a 5 out of 5 pizza.

Small Space, Big Personality
Briandi’s Restaurant is tiny. I counted just nine tables, seating about 36 people. From the road (202 South Tamiami Trail, Nokomis), it’s easy to miss, and first-timers might drive right by. But locals know it fills up fast, and they don’t take reservations, so arrive early if you plan to dine in.
Inside, it feels like the kind of hidden trattoria you stumble upon while strolling a narrow street in Italy. It’s unassuming from the outside. But, once you step through the door, you get the sense you’ve entered someone’s home and that you’re about to be treated to a great meal by good friends.
Final Thoughts
Briandi’s may not look fancy, but it’s the real deal. It’s a place where it’s obvious the food is made with care, the portions are generous, and the hospitality is genuine. Whether you’re in the mood for pasta or pizza you’ll leave full and happy.
If you’re in Nokomis and want authentic Italian comfort food in a homey, welcoming space, be sure to add Briandi’s to your list.
