In My Words

Michael Garth
Award-winning, published photographer and writer based in Northern Virginia.
After a fulfilling career, I’ve stepped into a new chapter focused on creativity, curiosity, and joy. Retirement isn’t about slowing down. It’s an opportunity to spend more time with what matters most: family, photography, writing, travel, and the natural world.
I reflect on the world through images and words. My photography captures nature in all its forms and the everyday moments that catch my attention, while my writing explores the stories, observations, and reflections those experiences inspire.
I also host Before You Decide, a short, reflective podcast that explores the small moments before we act, react, or move on. It’s another way of noticing and sharing the quiet patterns that shape our days.
Travel has become less about escape and more about connection, wonder, and discovery. My travel and nature blog is where I share these experiences through a mix of photographs and essays that continue to evolve with me.
I’m a husband, father, and grandfather, and some of my most meaningful moments are spent with family, especially my grandkids. When I’m not behind the camera or writing, you’ll likely find me hiking, biking, playing guitar, practicing Tai Chi, or simply taking in the beauty around me.
This site is where those photos and reflections live.
Thanks for stopping by. I’m glad you’re here.
