Spending Time in Nature: Clear the Noise

Finding Calm in Nature

We live in a world that rarely pauses. The 24/7 news cycle churns in the background, always urgent, always breaking. Social media fills the gaps, pushing us to react, comment, and scroll without end. Even in our quietest moments, the noise follows us.

Spending time in nature, make sure to look up.

Step outside, and you’ll find that the pace changes. A tree doesn’t refresh itself every thirty seconds. A tide doesn’t rush because a deadline demands it. A mushroom doesn’t grow when we press Enter. Nature moves at its own speed, and our minds begin to settle.

Spending time in nature, don't forget to look down.

What would happen if we spent as much time in nature as we do scrolling through feeds?

Small Shifts Matter

The noise wouldn’t disappear. The world would still be loud. But you will sense a change. You will find that your breathing slows; I know mine does. You will develop a sense of clarity and calm; I know I do. A walk in the woods, a pause in the park, or even a few minutes on a back porch can leave you steadier than before. I know I feel more level-headed after spending time on a trail.

These kinds of moments outside, spending time in nature, steady us in ways the constant scroll never will. Sometimes that steadiness is enough to shift the course of a day, a first step, a single foot forward, toward living more gently and mindfully in a world that never pauses.

Spending time in nature with a hummingbird.
